Our studio promotes engaged learning with a focus on creative practices and rigorous training in a welcoming community. Our skillful teaching artists are committed to developing reflective and creative dancers who care about community and develop an awareness of the whole body and whole person. Whether you are a teen just starting to dance, a child exploring movement and play, or a young person pursuing a dance dream, we welcome you to the community.
• The first step to registering for classes is to create an account in Momence (our registration system).
• Create a guardian account first then add the child/ren you wish to register making sure to include a birthdate for each child. Our youth classes are age restricted, so birthdates are necessary for registration.
• Add a form of payment to your account. We encourage you to link your bank account through ACH Direct Debit in order to save on processing fees, but Credit Cards are also accepted.
In your Momence account, click “My Account” then, under Saved Payment Methods, click “Save ACH Direct Debit.” You will be guided through the process to link your bank account through Stripe.
In order to maintain continuity in our youth classes, we do not offer drop-ins. However, we do offer trial classes up to 4 weeks into the semester. Trials can be taken later in the semester with the teacher's approval.

• Sign up for trial classes opens one-week prior to the start of the semester.
• Students may take trials in multiple classes, but only one trial per class.
• Each trial is $25 and can be arranged with the Youth Program Coordinator (youth@shawl-anderson.org) or by calling the studio: (510) 654-6921.
• Trial classes must be taken within one week of purchase.
• When you schedule a trial class, we will hold a spot in the class for one week. If you do not register for the semester within that week, your spot will be forfeited in order to allow other students to register.
• Yes. If there is room in a class and a student wishes to register after the semester starts, then we do offer prorated tuition.

Yes. Families unable to pay tuition in full upon registration may opt to pay 2x or 4x monthly payment plans with an automatic debit or credit card deduction.
• Yes. We strive to maintain equitable access to quality dance education and are proud to offer scholarships to families who may not otherwise be able to afford dance classes. For this reason, we offer a limited number of need-based, partial scholarships for families with a clear and stated financial need.
• We ask that families fill out the scholarship application each semester and our Youth Program Coordinator will work with you to register your child using available scholarship funds.
• Generally, we ask that families complete their request at least one week prior to the semester start date. If funds are available after the semester begins, we will review and make awards on a rolling basis.
• Requests for financial aid must be submitted prior to enrolling your child(ren).
• We are proud to offer dance classes to children of all ages!
• Our Dance with Me classes gives caregivers the opportunity to dance with children who can walk up to age 4. Dance with Me is perfect for children 3 and 4 years old who still feel more comfortable in a class with an adult participating alongside them.
• Our Creative Movement classes allow students 3 to 7 years old the chance to explore different types of movement in a fun and supportive setting. Students work on locomotor steps, starting and stopping safely, and getting used to being in a class environment. Students will be introduced to the language, etiquette, music, and stories of different dance forms.
• For students 8 and up, we offer a wide range of dance styles and levels, and we are always striving to add more! We offer Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern, Contemporary and Jazz classes taught by a diverse faculty of dance professionals.
• If you are unsure whether your child will like a class, we encourage you to take a trial class before committing to the semester.
• Refunds are available 1-week after the first class your student takes, less a $40 non-refundable deposit and the class passed.
• Class credit is available 2-weeks after the first class your student takes, less a $40 non-refundable deposit and the classes passed. This class credit can be used in the same semester by moving your child into another class (space permitting), or for the following semester.
• After 3 weeks of enrollment, refunds or credits are not available.

Class caps depend on the studio in which the class takes place. Classes are capped at between 10 and 18 students.
• Make-up classes are only offered in the event of a severe illness or emergency.
• Make-up classes are not offered after the first eight weeks of the Fall semester or ten weeks of the Spring semester.
